Owners of iDevices are more loyal to applications, generating a higher retention rate

Company Localytics analyzed the way in which the applications are used by the owners of iDevices and Android terminals, and the result was at least surprising. The focus was on how users interact with applications after downloading them from the App Store/Google Play and it seems that iDevice owners generate a higher retention rate than Android terminal owners. What this means? Well, the number of iDevice owners who open an application at least 10 times after downloading is 52% higher than the number of Android terminal owners who do the same.

But not all apps are created equally. Delving deeper into the retention and user metrics, iPhone and iPad users are 52% more loyal to their apps than Android users. A healthy 35% of Apple iOS users launched an app more than 10 times after downloading, compared to 23% of Android users. The average Android app also suffers from 24% one-time usage rate compared to just 21% one-time usage rate for iPhone and iPad.

More precisely, we use more the applications we download from the App Store, a sign that we choose the applications we download well. The owners of Android terminals are not really that loyal to the downloaded applications and of course there are a multitude of reasons for this difference, but I don't think it makes sense to list them here. Practically for developers, this study denotes the fact that the iOS platform can generate more use and implicitly more money, but most of them already knew these things.
