Motorola takes the Lapdock out of production due to low sales

In recent years, Motorola hasn't released that many great products, but the Lapdock could end up being one of the most used accessories in the world, but unfortunately it was taken out of production because the world wasn't interested in it. The Lapdock, together with a software called Webtop, were presented at CES 2011 and basically they allowed smartphone owners to use a laptop-dock to control the mobile terminal. Images from the smartphone were displayed on the laptop screen, users could control everything through the keyboard and a trackpad, but the price and limited functionality seem to have kept consumers away from it.

Motorola's Webtop app helps users extend their smartphone experience to larger screens. While consumers around the world have adopted Webtop and the concept spurred a lot of innovation in the industry, the adoption has not been strong enough to justify continued resources being allocated to developing Webtop on future devices. We have also seen the development of the Android operating system focus on the inclusion of more desktop-like features. Beginning with Photon Q and Droid Razr M/Droid Razr HD/Droid Razr Maxx HD, we will no longer be including Webtop on our products moving forward.

Friday those from Motorola they declared that both the Webtop and the Lapdock will be discontinued due to low sales and I can say that I am disappointed by the failure of this product. Such a concept could have been quite successful if it offered users the correct functionality, was supported by updates and did not cost much, as enough people are willing to use a smartphone in this way. Practically, this combination would have allowed them to give up the purchase of a tablet or a laptop, but those from Motorola don't seem to have known how to manage the whole situation.

I am sure that in the future other similar products will reach the market, but if they are not properly supported, they will have no chance of success.
