Apple hires ex-hacker who helped Microsoft secure its software, jailbreak could be at risk

Kristin Paget is a whitehat hacker who has contributed greatly to the security of software produced by Microsoft and now Apple called to its services to secure its software. Paget is an expert in discovering vulnerabilities in operating systems, and Apple intends to use her knowledge to fix the security problems of OS X and iOS, but nothing will happen all at once.

Kristin Paget — formerly known as Chris Paget — now works on Apple's security team. Just over five years ago, she was part of a small team of elite hackers brought in by Microsoft to lock down Windows Vista. Paget's work at Microsoft had been similarly secretive. She'd been forbidden from speaking about it for five years after her work there ended. But in 2011, the NDA expired, and she spilled the beans on her Vista hacking at the Black Hat Las Vegas conference. In short: Microsoft's security team had expected Vista to be pretty clean when Paget got her hands on it, but they were wrong.

During the time that Paget worked at Microsoft, she became known for the fact that she managed to convince the company to delay the release of Windows Vista to solve existing security problems. After several years spent at Microsoft, Kristen joined another private company, and now she is part of the team that ensures that the software produced by Apple is safe. With such a person in the company, we can expect that future jailbreak solutions will become extremely difficult to develop, the same can be true for hacking applications.
