iPhones were the best-selling smartphones in the US in Q4 2012

Although it has been said for more than a year that Android is destroying iOS, it seems that for now the war is going in favor of the those from Apple, at least in the USA. In Q4 2012, iOS was the leader on the smartphone market, with 51.2% of smart phones sold in the US being equipped with Apple's operating system. 44.4% of the rest of the smartphones run Android OS, and Windows Phone terminals are in 3rd place, with a market share of only 2.6%.

New York, January 22 – iOS continues to lead as the top selling smartphone platform sold in the US, with 51.2% of market sales for the 12 week period ending December 23rd, 2012, according to data released today by Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. In comparison to the same period last year, Android has remained stable, 44.8% to 44.2%, while Windows remained in third place at 2.6% of smartphones sold in the 12 weeks to December period.

The major mobile phone operators in the US sold mainly iPhones in Q4 2012, they represented two thirds of the total sales, and this says a lot about the popularity of the devices. No other smartphone manufacturer can currently surpass Apple in the US, but in the rest of the world there are quite a few areas where Apple is not the leader. This evening Apple will announce the financial results for Q1 2013 and we will find out how many iDevices it sold in the last 3 months of last year.
