Best Buy is recalling 5100 MacBook batteries due to a fire risk

Best Buy, one of the largest retailers in the US, initiated a program through which it withdraws 5100 batteries for MacBooks that were offered in exchange for damaged or ineffective ones. The program was initiated because 13 accidents occurred in the last months in the USA, the respective batteries were involved in the accidents, they caught fire out of nowhere and affecting MacBookusers. Now the people at Best Buy are trying to avoid the occurrence of future accidents, the customers who bought the replacement batteries started calling and offering them a voucher equal to the value of the purchase, or another battery that does not have a manufacturing defect.

Best Buy is recalling 5,100 replacement batteries for the MacBook Pro due to a fire risk. The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday that there have been 13 reports that the battery caught fire. One consumer suffered a serious burn on the leg. Best Buy Co. is voluntarily recalling both black and white ATG lithium-ion replacement batteries for the notebook computers. The batteries were sold online or shipped to customers through its Geek Squad services from September of 2008 through June of 2012 for about $50.

The problem only affects MacBooks sold by Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), in the past, now unavailable in the company's stores, and it seems that overheating during charging would have caused customers' accidents. Such accidents do not happen often, but unfortunately the products of many big companies have had problems with batteries that swell or catch fire out of nowhere, so the move of Best Buy should be praised. If you have purchased any batteries from the retailer in recent months, you should contact them. Unfortunately, it is not said which batch the batteries in question belong to, because similar problems could exist in other locations around the world.
