GlyphPatch protects iDevice owners from a dangerous exploit

Last week we revealed to you that an exploit for iOS si OS X allows hackers to attack iDevices or Macs by blocking their applications with a special set of characters. In the attempt to display those characters on the terminals, the iDevice/Mac applications get blocked and cannot be reopened by the users. Although Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), knows about the problem and has not solved it yet, during the last night it was launched in Cydia tweakCPC GlyphPatch, which solves it. According to the description, the tweak protects iDevices against any type of attacks of this kind, but it is only accessible to those who have jailbreak.

Prevent apps from crashing when rendering a malicious sequence of characters. On Aug 29th, 2013, a DoS (Denial of Service) exploit targeting iOS / OS X was disclosed. This exploit is based on a vulnerability affecting iOS / OS X characters rendering engines: this tweak aims to patch that vulnerability in order to protect the user from this kind of attacks, since the exploit can be triggered through different surfaces (SMS, iMessage, web , network SSID).

developer GlyphPatch published a series of explanations about the patch and the exploit, vol you can read them here, and you can download the tweak for free from the repo BigBoss al Cydia.
