As you already know very well, in iOS 7 the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), implemented a new system that uses the motion sensors of the terminals to give us the possibility to use animated wallpapers with our terminals. Although this system consumes resources, it is used by extremely many people, and today I will teach you how to make your own personalized animated wallpapers with your own images. The whole process is based on the modification of some existing images iOS 7 using Photoshop or other photo editing programs, otherwise you will not be able to generate the wallpapers you want.

To follow the procedure, you must have the application installed in your iDevices iFile, or use a PC/Mac utility that allows you to access system files, iFunbox being useful.

  1. Using iFile or iFunbox with an iDevice connected to the PC navigate to System/Library/ProceduralWallpapers/ProceduralWallpapers.bundle.
  2. In that folder you will look for the file bokeh.png which you will copy to the PC and restore it in the iDevice bokeh.png.bak. This file is basically a transparent image in which you have some empty circles, and in those circles you will have to position the image that you want to see moved on the screen exactly as you see the iDevice logo moved in the video clip at the beginning of this article. For this procedure it is useful to use Photoshop, the background of the image must remain transparent, but the images positioned in those circles do not necessarily have to be transparent.
  3. After making the changes, rename the final file to bokeh.png and copy it to the original folder instead of the old one.
  4. Now navigate to Settings>Wallpapers & Brightness, access the section Choose Wallpaper and then Dynamic, the first blue wallpaper being the modified one. Finally, choose the location where you want to set the wallpaper and it will become active, the animation being run only if you have disabled the setting Reduce Motion from Settings> General> Accessibility.

Any of the wallpapers in that section can be modified, each having a different name, and if you wish, you can replace the existing wallpapers with others made by you, the condition being that the names remain the same. This procedure only works in iOS 7.
