Apple, Samsung and Google become partners in an initiative centered on the European Union

Although it may seem hard to believe, the companies Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC),, Samsung si Google are partners in an initiative involving 18 other companies from around the world, them sending an open letter to European Union, asking him to amend the legislation that allows the blocking of sales of some products involved in processes regarding intellectual property rights. A similar initiative also exists in the USA, where the Supreme Court of Justice has been petitioned to modify the same legislation that allows some companies to harass the manufacturers of mobile terminals and not only with lawsuits that ultimately prove to be unfounded.

Apple and Samsung are among 19 companies and associations that told the EU in a letter that a new court should limit the ability of companies that license technology to win court injunctions when the validity of the underlying patent is in dispute. Manufacturers are turning to lawmakers and courts in Europe and America in battles with patent trolls, a derogatory term for intellectual property owners that don't manufacture products and instead rely on license fees. A similar group of companies are asking the US Supreme Court to make it easier for them to collect legal fees in patent disputes.

The implementation of these changes would to a certain extent unify the European and American legislation, in the USA companies that do not produce mobile terminals do not have the possibility to ask to stop the sale of such products. Although no one can say now whether this initiative will be successful or not, the lobby made by such large companies generally has very high chances of success, but the changes are difficult to implement and require years of debate.
