Apple acquires a company specialized in recommendations based on locations

  Continuing its series of acquisitions in recent months, the company Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), recently bought SpotSetter, a company specializing in location-based recommendations. Conformable the first rumors appeared on the internet, the purchase of those from Cupertino was made mainly for the technologies owned by the company, but also to bring to its team the two co-founders behind the service offered by SpotSetter.

  SpotSetter was founded in 2012 by a former engineer from Google, the company offering users personalized recommendations for locations based on social interaction. Using special algorithms, the SpotSetter application analyzes user information from the main social networks and from those that offer recommendations for businesses, the final result being a personalized service that recommends to users locations for food, entertainment and much more.

 At the end of last year, SpotSetter had over 5 million users and over 40 million businesses, so a large enough database to be attractive to Apple. Of course, the service is currently only useful in the US, but Apple will probably find a way to expand it globally.
