This is how an iPhone and a bionic pancreas help diabetics to survive

A recent experiment in the US demonstrates how important a smartphone can be in treating diabetes, which affects a huge number of people around the world. More precisely, 20 adults and 32 teenagers suffering from type 1 diabetes they participated to an experiment through which they could control the level of insulin introduced into the body using a device that monitors the level of glucose in the blood, a pair of hormone pumps and a iPhone.

The data address some of the most difficult problems indiabetes management. I'd say that the effects are quite significant and noteworthy.

The device implemented under the users' skin works like a bionic pancreas and injects insulin or glucanon into the body according to the patient's needs. All its activity and the drugs introduced into the body are monitored directly in iPhone, including measuring the blood glucose level using a special application that logs all the activity to be checked by doctors.

Using this system, the number of hypoglycemic interventions decreased from 1.6 per day to only 0.8 per day, the device being developed by a professor from Boston University. The entire system is to be tested to be publicly offered on the US market and can be interconnected with iOS 8 Health, the application being able to allow an extremely demanding monitoring of the health status of the users.
