iMods - the Cydia alternative is presented in a first video

iMods is an alternative to Cydia has been in the development process for a very long time, it being thought of as an alternative application and tweaks store for the most used application by users of jailbreak. After more than a year of development, in the video clip above you can see what the current version of the iMods application looks like for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, it will soon be available for all those who have jailbroken with the idea of it allows them to benefit more easily from packages for terminals.

imods it's shown in a beta version in the video clip above and of course it's not 100% ready to be distributed, but it's part of a long line of Cydia alternatives that have been announced but haven't changed much . The only Cydia alternative store that was successful was RockYourPhone, it was eventually purchased by the creator of Cydia, saurik, but after its disappearance no other competitor appeared for what we know today as Cydia.

iMods aims to replace Cydia

As you will see from the long video clip above, iMods aims to provide a better interface for viewing packages and a better method of installing packages, with developers benefiting from a better system for protecting packages against piracy. Of course, this whole process implies that users will be willing to actually buy packages, something that doesn't happen that often, many developers giving up on producing packages due to the extremely high rate of piracy.

The problem for iMods is that it appears at a time when jailbreaking is no longer as popular as it was many years ago, so it remains to be seen how successful it will be in an environment where users no longer look for Cydia alternatives. What do you think, will iMods be successful?
