Apple avoids fines in Europe because of freemium applications

App store fine

During the last year European Union initiated an investigation against Apple, Google and Amazon in an attempt to force the companies to stop misleading the customers who use their services. At the root of the problem are the freemium applications because of which many parents ended up paying thousands of dollars to various developers because of the children who were unconsciously making purchases. European Union asked the three companies to change the names of applications that use in-app purchases to avoid confusion among consumers, and Apple agreed to the request last year.

Now the free applications from App Store they no longer have the name free(free) in their right, but they only have the mark Get, this should suggest the idea that their use is not 100% free for users. By making this change, Apple avoided the application of serious fines for the availability of freemium applications in App Store, the Italian authorities being the first to announced that it completes the investigation started against Apple, Google and Amazon. Following them, the European Union should take a similar decision after all three companies changed the name of the button for downloading freemium applications.

The freemium model proved to be the most profitable for application developers, allowing the production of titles that generated serious amounts of money even though they were available for free. The applications had various functions that had to be paid to be unlocked, and this is where the developers collected most of the money.
