An application with pornographic material secretly recorded users' photos, used them for blackmail

android pornJust a few years ago, Steve Jobs recommended those who were looking for pornographic content in the App Store to switch to the Android platform because there they will find exactly what they want, but the result could be much different from expectations.

An application recently discovered by a security firm called Zscaler promised to offer Android users free pornographic content, but in reality it was built for a ransomware attack, recording photos of users without their knowledge.

More precisely, the application records users while using it and viewing pornographic content, the indecent pictures being used by hackers to blackmail users and ask them for money to unlock their blocked terminals and not to publish the pictures on the Internet.

The hackers asked on average about 500 dollars to unlock the terminals and in most cases they did not do this, but at least they did not publish on the Internet the pictures that probably showed some people in quite indecent positions.

Analysts at Zscaler say that the Adult Player software available for Android is malicious. It says some users have had photos taken of them without permission, before their phones were locked by the people behind the software. The photographs of the users are then incorporated into a digital ransom note asking for $500 (£330) to be paid via PayPal.

This is not the first time that Android applications are published with such software in application stores for the Google platform, the main good thing about the whole issue is that titles of this kind are not available in Google Play.

Even so, those interested in searching for pornographic content will not stop only at Google Play when it comes to searches, so hackers made serious amounts of money "on the back" of those who, without a computer, tried to view pornographic content on smartphone or tablet.
