Samsung testing autonomous carsSamsung will test autonomous cars in South Korea, the company announcing last month its plans to develop technologies for cars, the first step to be taken in its native country.

According to a local publication, Samsung will transform an old car racing circuit into an area where it will test autonomous cars, where various changes will be made that will reproduce to a certain extent the driving conditions in cities.

Those from Samsung will test autonomous cars on this circuit after the investments made in setting up the location, but the Korean company does not intend to develop autonomous cars, but to create technologies to sell to car manufacturers.

A system that would allow a car to benefit from automatic guidance is not the only technology that Samsung will work on, company representatives stating that various other projects would be initiated in the next period within Samsung.

The Gyeonggi government and Samsung Electronics said the company will remodel the Speedway to make it a testing ground for autonomous vehicles. Crossings and various kinds of actual road conditions will be built in order to test the safety and reliability of self-driven cars.

Since various IT companies either develop cars or develop autonomous driving systems, it was clear that Samsung would participate in this trend, especially since its divisions produce a multitude of components for various products, some even for automobiles.
