Apple blocked Pegasus on OS X as well

Last night Apple released a security update for OS X El Capitan, coming a week after iOS 9.3.5 was officially released by Apple. The distance from the operating system update is surprising, and this is because both updates close exactly the same vulnerability for users.

More precisely, we are talking about the Pegasus exploit, which was designed specifically to exploit the iOS operating system, Apple blocking it with the release of iOS 9.3.5. Although it was created specifically for iOS, it seems that it was also discovered in OS X El Capitan, and this security update closes it for everyone.

According to IT security experts, Pegasus for OS X can take control of a Mac if the user accesses a simple link on the Internet. Part of the exploit uses a Safari vulnerability, and after installing malware, hackers can see everything we do on our Macs and control them, all without us knowing.

Pegasus was created to monitor journalists and dissidents from developing countries, an Israeli company being behind the creation of this software. It has been used successfully so far by those who bought it, but the Apple company moved quite quickly and solved the problem, although many people were at risk for a long time.

If you have OS X Yosemite or OS X El Capitan installed on your Macs, then there is a security update for each of them and it is recommended that you install it.
