Apple Watch had record sales at the expense of Fitbit

Apple Watch had in Q4 2016 with record sales for the Apple company, those from Cupertino managed to sell 400.000 units more than in Q4 2015. The increase is about 10% in total sales, but it matters a lot in a market of smartwatches that are starting to generate more and more sales for manufacturers.

Apart from Apple, those from Xiaomi also recorded an increase in sales of wearables, but in their case we are talking about a doubling of the units. Xiaomi sold 5.2 million wearables in Q4 2016, compared to 2.6 million in Q4 2015, stealing from Apple and second place in the wearables market, but getting closer to Fitbit.

Fitbit, on the other hand, had a terrible Q4 2016, with their sales falling by 1.9 million units compared to the same period last year, but the company still remains at the top. The difference between Xiaomi and Fitbit is 1.3 million wearables sold, and if things continue like this, then in Q4 2017 Xiaomi could become the leader on this market.

Fitbit and Garmin were the only companies to record sales declines, with Samsung rounding out the top 5 with an increase of 500.000 units in sales. In the case of Samsung, the unit growth is higher than in the case of Apple, but still the company does not even account for half of Apple's total sales.

Overall, in 2016 the wearables market grew by 6.9%, or 3.9 million units, and in 2017 it could grow as well.
