LG and Samsung are currently working on the development of a new type of smartphone screens that are curved in all 4 corners. Samsung has had smartphones with curved screens towards the side edges for years, but now it wants to also curve the upper and lower parts of the OLED screens, LG wants the same thing.
According to those who know the plans of LG and Samsung, these screens would cover with images approximately 98% of the surface of the front panel, so theoretically including the sensors and the camera would somehow be integrated into it. At the moment there is absolutely nothing similar to any smartphone sold on the market, but Samsung is not very far from completing the development.
iPhone 8 could have had a curved screen in 4 corners
According to today's data, iPhone 8 it should have used this new type of curved screen on all 4 of its edges, but the latest rumors suggest otherwise. Apple would have ordered 92 million OLED screens for the iPhone 8 from Samsung, and they would be flat and slightly curved towards the side edges, but only in 2 parts.
The choice to use these curved OLED screens in only 2 edges instead of 4 would be related to the problems generated by their lamination and production on an industrial scale. To be able to have enough screens to cover the demand, those from Apple would have decided to go with a flat screen in the end, so we might still find enough units at the time of launch.

Another problem with these screens lies in the fact that in each corner there is a "dead" area where touches are not registered, and this is because laminating this type of screens is very difficult. However, Samsung is working hard on a solution, and for the Samsung Galaxy S9 it might have a solution to this problem, but this smartphone will be released in 2018.
