CERT-RO, or the National Cyber Security Incident Response Center, published today a very important warning for the citizens of Romania, drawing attention to a new vishing type attack, carried out in Romania. According to those from CERT-RO, this vishing type attack is meant to trick the Romanians through phone calls, hence the name, and below you have a full explanation of the attack.
CERT-RO claims that the victims are called by unknown numbers with the idea that they will call back the respective phone numbers, at which point they are presented with a story designed to make them reveal important information about them. Everything is based on public information about the victims that are called by the people of bad faith, those from CERT-RO stating that the attacks are also based on public information taken from the victims' social media accounts.

CERT-RO most likely recently discovered this vishing type attack, but does not say whether a large number of people were affected by it or not, but the warning must be heeded by everyone. The main problem in vishing or phishing attacks lies in the fact that the victims are easily fooled, and the stories of dishonest people have an element of urgency, of which we must all be very vigilant, according to those from CERT-RO .
CERT-RO has no way to protect Romanians from problems of this kind beyond warnings of this kind, and possibly reporting incidents to the police when people report their existence to them. However, the best method to protect yourself, including according to those from CERT-RO, is vigilance, and avoiding giving confidential information about yourself to unknown people, plus investigating any "urgent" stories you hear on phone.
