RCS & RDS. Telekom, Orange, Vodafone, today made an extremely important announcement regarding a last-minute solution that will have an impact for customers in Romania if it is implemented. More precisely, during yesterday Calin Popescu-Tariceanu announced good news for the customers of RCS & RDS, and of the other telecommunications companies, all related to GEO 114/2018, and the effects it will produce in Romania soon.
RCS & RDS. At the end of the month, the changes imposed by GEO 114/2018 for telecommunications companies, and not only, from Romania, would enter into force, if it is adopted tacitly, or by vote, by the Chamber of Deputies. A new emergency ordinance is prepared to modify the effects of the 114/2018, but the Government is preparing for the situation in which it will not be able to complete the discussions with RCS & RDS, or other companies, before the old ordinance takes effect.

RCS & RDS. In this situation, Calin Popescu Tariceanu announced that an extension of the effects to be produced by GEO 114/2018 is being prepared, so that companies are not effectively affected by it. It seems that the budget for 2019 was not planned with money that comes from this emergency ordinance against which RCS & RDS, plus many other companies are fighting, but the Government still wants to correct what the companies don't like.
I think it is normal that in this phase we are in, and here I am referring to one thing very clearly – the ordinance has not yet produced its effects, to talk to those in the economic environment to see what are their concerns and to we try to fix them. (…) I also discussed with Mr. Dragnea, we both agree that certain adjustments must be made in such a way that the ordinance achieves its objectives. (…) We would like to finish the discussions on Ordinance 114 as soon as possible. Probably, if we do not finish by the end of the month, we have a backup solution to extend the application deadline until we finish the discussions and finalize the GEO text.
RCS & RDS. The decision to extend the application of the effects of GEO 114/2018 was discussed by Calin Popescu Tariceanu and Liviu Dragnea, so that if the emergency solution is implemented, it will be accepted by everyone. The solution is not the best of all, but if a clear agreement has not yet been reached with RCS & RDS, or the other companies in Romania, then nothing better can be offered, so there is at least this much to prevent further increases prices.
RCS & RDS. We already know that Digi and Telekom have increased the prices for services in Romania because of this emergency ordinance, Orange and Vodafone can do the same, and the Romanian Government wants to avoid this.
