5G phones will grow very quickly in popularity in the coming years, the estimates being that they will surpass the sales of 4G phones much faster than some expected. More precisely, it seems that 1.9 billion 5G phones will be sold by 2023, and in that year they will amount to 51.4% of the total sales of phones worldwide.
5G phones would total 800 million units sold in 2023, with 18.8% of them sold in the US, and 34% of them sold in China. Of course, these percentages could change depending on the availability of 5G networks, but at the moment this seems quite improbable.
5G phones have already started to be sold in various countries around the world, including Romania, but at the moment they are available in quite limited quantities. In the next period, things should go on an upward trend for 5G phones, in 2020 there will be the biggest increase, as more models will be available.
"We expect 5G-enabled handsets will reach nearly 800 million units in 2023, accounting for 51.4% of all smartphone shipments, passing 4G smartphones five years after 5G's global commercial launch. The CAGR between 2019 and 2023 will be 179.9%, while vendors will ship nearly 1.9 billion devices to market by the end of 2023. Greater China will account for 34.0% of 5G smartphone shipments in 2023, followed by North America at 18.8% and Asia Pacific at 17.4%.”
