Telekom has millions of customers all over Romania at the moment, and many of them are affected by a very important change that will take place in the next few months. More precisely, those from Telekom agreed to sell their fixed services division, formerly Romtelecom, to the Orange company, the transaction between the two entities being valued at several hundred million euros, part of this money going to and the Romanian state, which is a shareholder in the former Romtelecom.
Telekom has over 4 million customers who use television services, fixed internet, fixed telephony, or convergent services, and they will be part of Orange after the sale is approved by the European Commission. The Romanian authorities will also have to confirm this transaction, but this is only a procedural problem, because they will not oppose the decision made by the European Commission regarding Telekom and Orange for the Romanian market.
Telekom: MILLIONS of Customers Affected by a Serious CHANGE
Telekom already offers those from Orange the opportunity to use their fixed infrastructure for internet and television services, so this will be an extremely simple transition for everyone. On the other hand, the rest of the customers will not have a difficult situation either, and this is because switching to Orange will not mean anything for them, at least not at the moment, but from 2022 things could still be quite different for them.
Telekom increased the prices for its services starting on March 1, so Orange probably won't have to make any more changes of this kind, so people will get there already paying higher prices. Those from Orange usually have higher prices than the competition for the services they offer, including Telekom, so the price increase could save the company from a similar decision after taking over the customers.
Telekom it should help Orange to make an easy transition for customers from Romania to its infrastructure, without them feeling any change, but when it comes to procedures of this kind, problems can arise at any time.
