Telekom is still one of the largest telecommunications groups in Romania, and in 2020 it decided not to launch an important service expected by customers throughout the country. Telekom is the only large telecommunications operator in Romania that does not have 5G infrastructure publicly accessible by customers, and this is because the Romanian state has not yet auctioned the frequencies dedicated to this infrastructure. The other competing operators of Telekom decided to make 5G networks using the frequencies they had licensed for 4G, and they offer speeds of even more than 1 GBps for customers, but everything is an improvisation until the frequencies for the 5G networks will be auctioned.
Telekom: Important Service with Expected Launch in 2021
Telekom took this decision after many unknowns appeared in 2019 from a legislative point of view, and the political instability made many people not think about long-term investments. Telekom currently has a telecommunications infrastructure with internet speeds lower than those of Orange and Vodafone, comparable to those of DIGI Mobil, but overall inferior to what the competition offers to its customers.
Telekom he knows very well that 5G technology is important in Romania, and his mobile division will most likely focus on developing its own infrastructure, but this after the frequencies will be officially auctioned. Until then, neither Vodafone nor DIGI Mobil have invested in their 5G networks, Orange being the only operator that has allocated resources to expand the existing infrastructure, but from 2021 things should change for the better for everyone.
Telekom he did not say anything beyond the CEO's statements regarding the 5G situation in Romania, but he will participate in the 5G auction, and will most likely be quickly prepared to announce the first 5G stations in Romania.
