Valeriu Gheorghita: Warning Before Wave 5 for Romanians

Valeriu Gheorghita sent a new warning for Romanians all over the country before the 5th wave hits Romania, something that has already been announced by multiple public health experts, but the CNCAV president talks about the situation of vaccination coverage in Romania.

Valeriu Gheorghita says that a rate of only 39.5% of the eligible population of Romania is vaccinated, extremely little before wave 5, if we look at what is happening in European countries with much higher vaccination rates, so it is not excluded to see new very high numbers of infections at the beginning of 2022.

"As such, the vaccination rate with at least one dose of Romania's total population of 19,3 million inhabitants, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics, is about 39,5%; of the population over 12 years old, the current vaccination rate is 45%, and the adult population over 18 years old, the vaccination rate is 47,5%.

At the European level, the vaccination rate among the adult population in the member countries of the European Union is around 81% with at least one dose and almost 70% with the full schedule.

Also, if we look at the vaccination coverage at the level of the municipality of Bucharest and at the level of the counties, at the moment in Bucharest the rate of vaccination coverage with at least one dose is 65,2%; also, there are three counties that have over 50% vaccination rate: Cluj, Constanța and Sibiu. There are 23 other counties that have between 40 and 50% vaccination rate, 13 counties that have between 30 and 40% and, further, we have two counties with a vaccination rate below 30%, Covasna county, which has 29,15% , and Suceava with 28,2%.

In terms of age group, age groups and vaccination coverage rate, the highest vaccination coverage rate is in the 50-60 age group, where it is about 54% followed by the 60-70 age group years, where it is 51,2%.

The rest, from over 20 years old to 50 years old, approaches 50%; at 80 years old we have 25% and 12-15 years old 15%, 16-19 years old - about 36%. I would also like to mention regarding the safety profile and reported adverse reactions, to date there are over 19.260 reported cases of post-vaccine adverse reactions with a reporting rate of 1,3 per 1.000 doses administered .”
