The number of Romanians reinfected by the Omicron variant is increasing

The number of Romanians reinfected more than 6 months after the most recent infection is growing at a very fast pace in wave 5 determined by the Omicron variant of COVID-19, and below you can see that only in the last 24 hours almost 10% have been detected from the total number of reinjected people in almost 2 years of the pandemic.

The authorities say that in the almost 2 years of the pandemic, 25.473 people were detected reinfected at least 6 months after the last infection, and 2.084 of them were detected only in the last 24 hours, which clearly shows that a previous infection does not offer too much protection against Omicron.

"In the last 24 hours, 19.105 new cases of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) were registered, 2.495 more than the previous day. 2.084 of the new cases in 24 hours are of reinfected patients who tested positive more than 180 days after the first infection.

In total, until today, January 20, 1.964.021 cases of infection with the new coronavirus (COVID-19) were registered on the territory of Romania, of which 25.473 are of re-infected patients, tested positive after a period of more than 180 days after the first infection."
