Virgil Popescu: Official Decisions Announced to Millions of Romanians with Gas and Energy Bills

Virgil Popescu announced a series of very important decisions for Romanians from all over the country who recently received too high bills for energy consumption or natural gas, they were decided during the most recent meeting of the Romanian Government.

Virgil Popescu talks below about the consumption ceilings that exist for domestic consumers, what happens with erroneous invoices, the obligations of service providers, the information being important because it will apply from the next period.

"The amount of 1500 cubic meters and the amount of 2500 kilowatts, basically 500 kilowatts, that is the same thing, applies throughout the period from November 1 to March 31, and in the text of the original law, if you look, there are some coefficients, some distribution percentages for natural gas, because for energy it is considered constant, for the distribution of this quantity for each individual month.

So an invoice that does not have a ceiling, does not have elements that show that it is capped and does not have elements that show that it is compensated, obviously does not have the compensation mechanisms applied.

There is only one situation when this cannot be, it is not applied, when the price is so low, which I do not think is the case at the moment, and there is no need for capping and compensation. It is obvious that each of us knows about how much we pay.

No, a colleague of yours asked me the same question this morning, exactly the same question. I am also answering what I said to her, with the additional motivation that, this time, I have already approved the text and forced the providers to redo them, but for people, for absolutely all people, and the elderly, and those who are alone, obviously, everyone can look at an invoice to see if they are paying more than they were paying before, and this is the first sign that they can give.

So, normally, the suppliers have the obligation, on their own initiative there when they know, and they know that the software did not adapt them, to redo absolutely all the invoices not to pay penalties. And not to charge penalties and stop payments, basically, Romanians should not pay them until they solve them."
