DNSC Warning Regarding Phishing Attacks Cryptocurrency Investments

DNSC has issued a new warning about phishing attacks that concern cryptocurrency investments, and below you can see one that involves the Tesla brand, although in reality we are not talking about something done by the American company.

"Beware of fake social media pages that distribute #phishing / #scam attacks aimed at users interested in investing in cryptocurrencies!

In the images below you have a sample of such a #Facebook page, which propagates a fake website, created specifically to mislead visitors. The site copies the visual identity of #Tesla to convince potential victims to provide personal or financial data, under the pretext that they can purchase cryptocurrencies launched by the popular American company.

Usually, such phishing attacks are launched on social media, through sponsored posts (on Facebook, #Twitter, #Instagram or #Google). In this case, the attackers use the image of the American company and the famous Elon Musk to claim that Tesla has launched a new cryptocurrency, precisely because the latter is extremely vocal on the subject of #crypto.

So, cybercriminals are trying to take advantage of this logical association, to pretend that Tesla has launched a coin and that it will be a good investment. Unfortunately for those who fall into the net of cybercriminals, it is a trap. Moreover, being in the pre-launch phase, the user should hurry to be able to purchase coins at a preferential price.

recommendation

If an offer online seems too good to be true, check the existence of this promotion on the official channels of the respective company! A quick analysis shows, for example, that the presale-ico[.]com domain does not belong to Tesla and was registered a few days ago (February 5).

Pay attention to the grammatical and expression correctness of the text! Any glaring errors can be an indication of a possible attack.

Avoid providing personal, financial or login details if explicitly asked for online, especially if you are promised a quick win!

Report such pages that promote contests, fake promotions or unreal earning opportunities. Multiple reports in a short time to the social network in question can lead to the rapid suspension of the page propagating fraudulent content.

If you have provided financial or card details following such social media links, we recommend that you contact your bank immediately to block your card and monitor your account transactions! If you have suffered material damage, you will need to file a complaint with the Romanian Police. At the same time, notify the Directory by phone 1911."
