Minister of Education: Last Minute Decisions, Measures Expected for Years

Minister of Education Last Minute Decisions Expected Measures Years Days

The Minister of Education announces a series of last-minute decisions that bring measures awaited for years in Romania, some for the first time for our country, and this because in the end loans will be granted for students from our country, with much higher interest rates more advantageous than until now.

The Minister of Education says that he discussed with representatives of the European Investment Bank regarding the financing of these loans, but the BNR is also involved, so that in the next period the conditions under which they can be granted will be announced for those who want to take them .

"Education needs support, it needs support more than ever. We need support for Romanian pupils and students, as well as for pupils and students who are refugees from Ukraine. There are a number of measures that are already being implemented.

Last week I had a meeting in Luxembourg with the European Investment Bank, and there is interest on the part of this bank to finance including the part of loans for students, loans obviously with advantageous interest rates, and without the need for guarantees from the students.

This has so far prevented the granting of loans to students, we are in discussions to remove this impediment, and to grant loans to those who wish to study in Romania. We are in full discussions with the European Investment Bank. Last week we had a meeting with all the rectors from Romania, and we also had a representative of the BNR as guests.

He said, also based on the same European program, that he wants to get involved in granting loans for the benefit of students. We had a resolution of the National Council of Rectors in Romania supporting the increase of the scholarship fund for Romanian students. At the moment there is an allocation of 201 LEI per month per student, and the request is for this allocation to increase to 250 LEI per month.

There is already in implementation the national program to reduce school dropouts, through which children from 1.391 schools, for the beginning, will receive substantial support, for the first time an integrated support, to be able to attend school. These 1.391 schools will be completed up to over 3.300 schools in the second round of financing the program. There are many programs that run in parallel, and if they achieve their goals, I can say that it will be an unprecedented help for the education system."
