Minister of Education: Last Minute Official Decision, Major Change in Education

The Minister of Education confirms for all Romanians an extremely important decision that was thought to apply to all of Romania, and based on it major changes will be made to the education system in our country, and this is because the tests and exams are going to be changed .

The Minister of Education talks below about what it means to change the Baccalaureate exam in order to personalize it for students who want to demonstrate that they have certain skills, and the measure is an extremely interesting one, similar to those that exist in other countries around the world at the moment .

"At the moment, the Baccalaureate is somehow an unfair system, because you get the same diploma on different paths, simpler, very complicated, easy, very difficult. The baccalaureate diploma is only one. It's true, getting a baccalaureate degree when you've worked a lot is equal in the labor market, in the universities.

The baccalaureate diploma, in fact, is now only used to enter the university, it is no longer the high school graduation exam it used to be. The world has changed, it is only a diploma that certifies the completion of one, and it should also certify the acquisition of those competencies.

It must, on the other hand, be strongly personalized in such a way that the student who considers that he has competence in a certain discipline has the opportunity to prove those competences in the Baccalaureate exam, to receive a certification, and that certification is recognized both on the labor market and for access to college.

For example, we have students who are very good programmers. Where do we give him the chance at the Baccalaureate to prove that he is a very good programmer? Nowhere. If you give him this chance, and in the Baccalaureate exam he has that certification, it might be that, I don't know, the Polytechnic University of Bucharest will give scholarships, and allow access without an entrance exam to those who have tested in a credible way that they have that programmer competence.

So leave personalized access in this high school graduation exam for each student to say, without it being mandatory. Those students who consider that they do not want to take an exam in any discipline because they do not consider themselves competent in any discipline, will have the disciplines from a common pool, at the basic level. But above the basic level, allow good students to take the exam."
