The Minister of Defense announces one of the important measures that Romania is taking while the war in Ukraine is not coming to an end, and this is because the decision to buy Bayraktar TB2 drones, the ones also used by the Ukrainians against Russia in the battles, was confirmed. until now.

The Minister of Defense says that 18 drones worth 300 million dollars, without VAT, will be bought, they will reach the Romanian Army, and separately he also talks about the meeting he had with the Deputy Minister of Defense from Ukraine, discussing the evolution of the war until now.

"Proceedings regarding the acquisition of three unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). The Ministry of National Defense, Romania - www.mapn.ro requested, at the beginning of August, the prior approval of the Romanian Parliament for the initiation of the procedure for awarding contracts related to the purchase of three Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), a six aircraft each, for a total value, including the support package, of USD 300 million, excluding VAT.

The UAS systems to be purchased will be intended for the Romanian Land Forces. Each system includes six aerial platforms with target engagement capabilities (a total of 18 drones). The program also involves the purchase of an initial logistical support package and the necessary training and training equipment.

Through this acquisition, the implementation of the Capability Targets assigned to Romania in the framework of NATO's defense planning process is considered. Also, this approach contributes to the achievement of the objectives of the Program regarding the transformation of the Romanian Army until the year 2040.

Today, I had a meeting with the deputy defense minister of Ukraine, Denys Sharapov. Today's meeting is part of the constant defense dialogue between Romania and Ukraine in the context of the regional security situation in the Black Sea area against the backdrop of the Russian Federation's war of aggression against Ukraine.

During our discussion, we reiterated the fact that Romania condemns in the strongest terms the brutal actions of the Russian Federation and highlighted the importance of the actions taking place, at NATO and EU level, to strengthen security in the region and deter aggression, as well as the need to maintain consistency and the pace of assistance to the Ukrainian partner, so that Russia clearly perceives long-term international solidarity and support for Ukraine.
