Minister of Education: Last Minute Announcement, Important Measure for the Future of Romanian School Students

Minister of Education Announcement LAST TIME Important Measure The Future of Romanian School Students

The Minister of Education announces to the millions of students in Romanian schools about a very important measure that is meant to bring major changes for the future, and we are talking about Financial Education in educational units, also supported by the National Bank of Romania.

The Minister of Education talks below about the great importance of Financial Education in the development of young Romanians, but also how important it is at the European level, being one of the priorities of the European Union for the development of the European financial services market.

"Many times we hear in the public space a false debate, that between the importance of the fundamental disciplines, and the importance of their application through new types of education, such as financial education. We already know that there are other types of education that students appreciate, that we are talking about legal education, that we are talking about health education, etc.

I don't think that these 2 types of education come into any conflict, on the contrary, I think that the fundamental disciplines find their application in contexts that students, and later adults, meet every day. Certainly, financial education offers this opportunity. The National Financial Education Lesson is an initiative of the BNR, which has significant contributions in supporting young people in acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to manage money.

In an era of competences, financial literacy is an essential condition for functioning in society. Along with the family, the school has the responsibility to form and practice these vital skills. The child who has a good financial education will learn to become responsible with his money, he will understand complex financial products, financial risks, and what are the tools that can support him in times of trouble.

Financial education offers the opportunity to any future adult to learn how to capitalize on their resources, to create their own framework of well-being and financial protection. Given the need for financial education in the context of globalization, the ministry supports the BNR's initiative to promote financial education lessons at the national level, so necessary for students.

From a curricular point of view, I must remember that the optional discipline Financial Education began to be taught in primary education in Romania in the 2013-2014 school year. The project was started by the BNR itself together with the ministry, and not only. The Ministry took into account the fact that this type of education, as well as financial inclusion, are priorities for the European Union, with the general goal of developing an integrated market of financial services at the European level."
