Austria made a Worrying Official Announcement Romania's Schengen Accession

Austria made a worrying official announcement related to Romania's accession to Schengen, the government in Vienna, led by Chancellor Karl Nehammer, took it upon itself to publish the statistics on the asylum applications registered by the country in November, which was lower than those of previous months.

Austria seems to have announced good news, but compared to previous years, the figures remain extremely high, as you can see below, the local press saying that only in November of 2022, the country registered almost as many applications for asylum as in 2019, and as you know, Romania's accession to Schengen depends on the decrease of these figures.

Austria said that it will not accept Romania's accession to Schengen until the asylum requests will decrease significantly and the system will be reformed, but the official figures show us that the situation is extremely far from a quick solution, so that our country's chances of and fulfill the objective remain extremely small for now, despite the hopes.

"The number of asylum applications decreased significantly in November. This is evident from the statistics published on Monday by the Ministry of the Interior. However, the number of claims last month was also at a very high 11.890. For comparison: in the whole of 2019, only 12.886 applied for protection in Austria.

However, most applicants are likely to move to other countries within a short period of time. At the end of November, 92.561 people were registered in basic care, around 1.000 more than in October. Most of them, almost 56.000, are people displaced from Ukraine. They do not have to apply for asylum individually and are usually housed privately."
