What does it mean to be an OFFICER in the Romanian Army?

Officers are military personnel who have completed university studies and perform functions with command/leadership or execution duties.

Decisive are the experience gained in various functions and military units, the completion of continuous professional training programs, the way of fulfilling the assigned missions in the country and abroad, as well as the qualifications obtained in the annual service appraisals.

How to become an OFFICER:

By completing and completing the undergraduate military university studies, organized and carried out in the military university education institutions. The duration of studies is between 3 and 6 years, depending on the degree field.

  • The Medical-Military Institute - the courses take place at the "Carol Davila" University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest and at the "George Emil Palade" University of Medicine, Pharmacy, Sciences and Technology in Târgu Mureș (5-6 years).

Upon completion of university studies, graduates obtain a bachelor's degree, an officer's certificate, are awarded the first rank of officer (sub-lieutenant or aspirant) and are appointed to the position.

By completing and completing the active officer training course, organized only for the weapons/services and military specialties for which training cannot be provided within the Ministry of National Defense, through the license programs (lawyers, psychologists, sociologists, construction engineers, journalists, musicians etc.). Only graduates of civil university studies can participate.

The duration of the training course is up to 9 months, depending on the weapon/service and military specialty.

The training of officers through training courses is carried out in military education units/institutions or other military structures intended for initial and continuous professional training.

Graduates receive the officer's certificate, are granted the rank of officer and are appointed to the position.
