redsn0w 0.9.7 – reason for dispute in the international iPhone community

Dev Team promised the whole world that 2010 will bring them an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1. Unfortunately, the team did not keep their word, more than that they are working on an untethered jailbreak solution that will ONLY work for some and will require hacking the iOS 4.2 beta 3 firmware. If you didn't know, all beta firmwares released by Apple are intended exclusively for developers, their distribution on the Internet being considered illegal.

redsn0w 0.9.7 requires you to have a firmware for iOS 4.2 beta 3, but if you are not a developer you should not have such a thing in your computer and downloading it is considered an act of software piracy. Why is distributing a beta version of iOS considered piracy? Well, because developers pay $99/year to have access to these versions of iOS and their distribution violates Apple's copyright. For Romanians, the term "piracy" is completely irrelevant, but for foreigners it seems that the method developed by the Dev Team is not really that legal.

MuscleNerd last night had a dispute with several former collaborators, but among them chpwn si p0sixninja attacked him the hardest, saying that the solutions developed by the Dev Team encourage people to hack Apple's iOS. These arguments do not bring any benefit to those who are waiting for jailbreak or unlock solutions and will certainly not lead to a faster release of those that are now in the works.

Lately Dev Team seems to be attacked from several sides, it remains to be seen how it will manage and how it will manage to reconcile all the people who question its work.
