In the video clip above we have a confrontation between 2 platforms that allow making video calls between iDevices or between iDevices and PCs/Macs. Those from Lifehacker used an iPhone 4, an iPod Touch 4G, a Mac and a Logitech Pro 9000 camera for these tests, You will notice that the film is divided into tests made between iDevices on Skype, between an iDevice and a Mac on Skype, between iDevice- uri via FaceTime and between iDevices and a Mac. The Logitech Pro 9000 camera was used on the Mac because it is a camera capable of filming HD and it did not affect the quality of the video stream in any way.

Between the 2 applications there are few differences regarding the quality of the video stream. Both are capable enough to provide a relatively good image via 3G or Wi-Fi, except FaceTime which by default does not allow video calls via 3G. The audio quality is very good on both, but if you use Skype there is the possibility of reporting some lag between the audio stream and the video stream, but that depends on each person's connection. Overall, the applications are quite close, Skype can also be used on 3G but has lag, FaceTime only works via Wi-Fi but has no lag; Skype also works on Windows or Linux while FaceTime only works on Mac OS X, Skype will probably be improved in the future, but FaceTime will not, at least until the next iPhone model.

In conclusion, it depends on your attitude to use any of these 2 applications.
