Apple and Sony are fighting against jailbreak solutions for their own operating systems, but Microsoft has adopted a much more pacifist position, preferring to help jailbreakers make their own applications instead of attacking them . Microsoft invited to the headquarters in Redmond those who developed the first jailbreak solution for Windows Phone 7 with the idea of helping them legally develop applications that will probably never reach the Windows Marketplace.
Microsoft has a new operating system and understood that their operating system will have a much better promotion through the communities that make their own 3rd party applications not accepted in the Marketplace. Microsoft understood that this will help them "bring" Windows Phone 7 into the hands of as many people as possible and my opinion is that their decision will completely change the way most people look at the new operating system.
Microsoft also tried to attract geohot during the "time of the jailbreak" by offering him a terminal with Windows Phone 7 for free, but we do not know if geohot will orientate towards this platform or not.
