Yesterday, Apple and Verizon officially launched the CDMA version of the iPhone 4, the stock running out just 17 hours after the opening of pre-orders. In just 2 hours - between 3:00 AM and 5:00 AM - Verizon sold more iPhone 4 CDMA terminals than it had sold any other device in a launch day. An iPhone terminal available for 8 months on the market managed to generate record sales for the second operator in the US that sells iPhone terminals. Looking at things objectively, Verizon customers have been wanting an iPhone terminal for a very long time and if Apple had more available then the Verizon website would be struggling even now with pre-orders.
The ones from 9To5Mac I support that in the 17 hours of availability, around 250.000 iPhone 4 terminals were sold, a rather small number compared to the 1.7 terminals pre-ordered at AT&T last summer in 3 days of pre-orders. At Verizon, the device was only available to existing customers, employees not being allowed to order one. The figure is unconfirmed for now, but Apple and Verizon will probably announce in the following days how much they have sold and maybe they will make some more stock available to customers.
It's impressive to see how much people want to buy a device that has been on the market for so long, a device that costs a lot of money, generates huge profit for Apple and which is not produced fast enough as it is sold.

"I am proud of our employees who worked tirelessly to strengthen and scale our systems, enabling unprecedented customer orders through our website. Overall, it was a very good day," he added.
Mead also said customers will have another opportunity at being among the nation's first to own an iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network.
"Yesterday's launch set the pace for next week when we open up sales to everyone across America."
The general market launch of the iPhone 4 on the Verizon Wireless network will occur on February 10. The company will open its more than 2000 Verizon Wireless Stores at 7 am It will also be available at all Apple store locations, Best Buy, select Wal- Mart stores, and online at verizonwireless.com and apple.com.
