Verizon and customers – the big losers of the iPad 2 launch

It has become common for hundreds of thousands of people to sit in queues in front of Apple stores waiting for the launch of a new product, and this queue of 1200 people in New York shows the situation as well as possible. Apple chose to launch the iPad 2 tablet in 18 different models: Wi-Fi, GSM 3G + Wi-Fi and CDMA 3G + Wi-Fi. I told you that the iPad 2 sold so well that a few hours after the opening of the order session in the Apple Store, the delivery terms had reached from 24 hours to 2-3 weeks. The situation was the same in stores where the tablets were sold like hot cakes... but not all.

Nevermind the efforts of the sales folk who were singing the virtues of the Verizon iPad 2. No one wanted it. And that makes you wonder whether the world (or the nation, to be accurate) really wants a Verizon iPhone 5.

The iPad 2 GSM and Wi-Fi left the shelves faster than they had gotten there from the hands of the employees, but the 3G CDMA model for Verizon remained. In many Apple stores and partner stores, the 3G CDMA version of the iPad 2 was still available, but no one wanted it. Apple produced several hundred thousand 3G CDMA models and a good part of them remained on the shelves while customers who wanted the GSM model went home empty-handed. It seems that Apple has miscalculated the demand for the iPad 2 regarding the Verizon version and customers have the most to lose considering that the Wi-Fi and 3G GSM versions are no longer available at any store in the US.
