Apple patents a new file sharing system using gestures

Apple is taking the bold "post PC era" seriously and iCloud will be just the beginning. Company a posted a patent describing methods of sharing files between iDevices using a new technology. You've probably already seen methods to send files from one device to another using a simple swype, well that's what Apple wants to do. The patent describes gestures made by users that would transfer files between 2 iDevices very simply and easily. Basically, we choose a file, swipe to the edge of the screen and that file is automatically sent to an iDevice compatible with the same technology developed by Apple.

Apple's solution begins by stating that a user could make an intuitive, physical gesture with a first device, which could then be detected by one or more onboard motion sensors. The detected motion triggers an animation having a "physics metaphor," where the object appears to react to forces in a real world, physical environment.

A similar system already exists in WebOS and allows users to send web pages from one device to another using a simple gesture. If Apple implements something like this on iDevices, imagine that you could send almost the same things: web pages, contacts, photos, movies, but not applications or music because Apple will not allow this. Such a system would be more than welcome and could probably be implemented using Wi-Fi Direct™ technology, but I think Apple will let us wait a few more years before allowing this.
