I'm sure many of you have not forgotten like last year Gizmodo presented the world premiere of the iPhone 4 terminal that Apple would later reveal at WWDC 2011. The story was worthy of a Hollywoow movie, it involved the loss of the terminal in a bar, its finding by a person, telephones given to Apple and the sale to Gizmodo for $5.000. Then Apple filed a complaint against Gizmodo and the police searched both the house of the publisher John Chen who presented the terminal and one of the offices of the Gawker Media agency that owns the Gizmodo website. Now almost a year away from the prosecutors in San Mateo They've decided not to sue any of the people involved in the presentation of the iPhone 4 terminal on the Gizmodo website.
The prosecutors will still sue the people who knew about the existence of the iPhone 4 terminal but did not notify the Apple company. Basically, Gawker Media and John Chen get away with it and 2 people will be sentenced to prison terms or most likely will receive a suspended sentence and many hours of work for the benefit of the community. This scandal between Apple and Gawker Media led to the cooling of the relations between the 2 companies and no representative of Gawker Media has been invited since then to participate in the presentation of any product of the Apple company. We are pleased that the District Attorney of San Mateo County, Steven Wagstaffe, has decided, upon review of all of the evidence, that no crime was committed by the Gizmodo team in relation to its reporting on the iPhone 4 prototype last year. While we have always believed that we were acting fully within the law, it has inevitably been stressful for the editor concerned, Jason Chen, and we are glad that we can finally put this matter behind us.
We don't have anything official from Apple, but I don't think they will continue this scandal by attacking the decision of the prosecutors.
