Google sells applications for $0.1, Apple sleeps in its slippers

Google's Android Market has finally reached 10 billion downloads and Google has decided to organize a promotion interesting for its users. It is well known that the owners of Android terminals do not really buy applications for various reasons and those from Google thought to motivate them a little by launching a promotion that brings applications to only 0.1$ for users. Gameloft, EA Games, and many other manufacturers are offering hundreds of apps for just $0.1 in the next 10 days, and Android owners can thank Google for that.

To celebrate this milestone, we partnered with some of the Android developers who contributed to this milestone to make a bunch of great Android apps available at an amazing price. Starting today for the next 10 days, we'll have a new set of awesome apps available each day for only 10 cents each. Today, we are starting with Asphalt 6 HD, Color & Draw for Kids, Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro, Fieldrunners HD, Great Little War Game, Minecraft, Paper Camera, Sketchbook Mobile, Soundhound Infinity and Swiftkey X.

When Apple celebrated 10 billion downloads from the App Store, it gave $10.000 to a single person instead of organizing a promotion like this, and from my point of view, the strategy was thought out wrong. I think that Apple has more to gain if it offers less to many than if it offers everything to one person. I hope that Apple learns something from this and in a future promotion to act in the same way because it has the resources to do this and it would make tens of millions of iDevice owners happy.
