Camera+ is definitely one of the best applications for taking pictures using an iDevice and its developers today announced that over 6 million copies have been sold through the App Store. Those from Tap Tap Tap announced that their application generated a profit of 5,125,844 in almost one year and two months of availability in the App Store, and for an application of only €0.79 the figures are truly impressive. The application was initially launched in July 2010, but it was absent from the App Store for almost half a year, but in December it returned and generated huge profits for the developer company.
The app has earned us a grand total of $5,125,844 to dates. Over the past 6 months, Camera+ revenue has increased over 3x. Play along and fantasize for a second about that trend continuing over time... if it keeps going, by 2018 our daily sales would be twice the world population. Yeah, this growth might not be sustainable over time. Anyway... The two most relevant things contributing to the large jumps on the right side of the above chart were the launch of the iPhone 4S in early October and the annual Christmas bump. Both were increases that were expected but what's been surprising is how long each has lasted.
Those from Tap Tap Tap collect between $50-$150.000 weekly from App Store sales, and that's after Apple takes 30% of the profit. The developer company of Camera+ says that the iPhone 4S effectively doubled the number of applications sold daily and the Christmas period brought an extremely large bonus for an application that was already extremely popular. In conclusion, Camera+ is probably the best-selling application that allows us to take pictures with our own iDevices, and that won't change anytime soon.
