Absinthe 2.0 seems to be the name of the new untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 5.1.1, and it should be officially released for us sometime this week. For now Pod2G is testing it to solve possible incompatibilities between it and our iDevices, and as soon as it is available you will be able to use it. Pod2G did not mention if the solution will also work on iOS 5.1, so many of you will have to update to the new iOS 5.1.1, if that is the case, and this involves going through some steps to ensure that the information in the iDevices yours don't disappear.

If you haven't jailbroken your iDevice then the situation is extremely simple because you only have to make a backup with iTunes/iCloud and the information in your terminal will be saved. After making a backup, you can use the Update button in iTunes, the Backup option in iCloud, or the OTA Update in your iDevice (Settings>General>Software Update) to update without deleting the information from your terminals. It is important to remember that in the case of a restore, not an update, you will delete everything from the device, and the backup does not save all the pictures, all the messages, nor the applications installed on other accounts.

If you have a jailbreak and you are not interested in saving the applications/tweaks downloaded through Cydia or pirated applications, then you can follow all the instructions above. If you want to save the applications from Cydia, then you can use applications like xBackup or PKGBackup to save everything you have and reinstall the packages after the restore. Pirated applications cannot be saved and reinstalled automatically after restore, so do not expect to be able to do such a thing and all pirated applications will be automatically deleted during the update or restore process.

After updating to iOS 5.1.1 and reinstalling everything, wait for Absinthe 2.0 and that's it.
