Android OS controls half of the smartphone market in Europe

Yesterday I told you that Android OS and iOS control 90% of the US smartphone market and that Apple Lossless Audio CODEC (ALAC), sells 2 times more smartphones than the most powerful terminal manufacturer Android, and now they come with new, and equally unofficial, information regarding sales in Europe. According to Dominic Sunnebo, Kantar World Panel ComTech analyst, in Europe terminals with the Android operating system would control more than half of the market, but of course no clear figures are provided regarding the entire market.

The latest data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech shows that for the first time Google Android has taken at least half of smartphone sales across Great Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, US and Australia. New Apple iPhone sales on the Sprint network, however, meant Android fell 6.8 percent in America. In Europe, the share now ranges from 49.6 per cent in Italy to 84.1 per cent in Spain. In the UK, BlackBerry sales continued their decline, falling 8.4 percent in the last year. Android rose 8.5 percent and Windows Phone rose 2 percent.

In Great Britain, Germany, France, Spain or Italy, Android terminals control more than half of the market, but of course no data is provided about the percentages held by iOS. Apple was the main manufacturer of smartphones in those markets, now it has lost its crown and it is normal to be so considering that Android terminal manufacturers have just launched a series of interesting smartphones. Even if Android controls the market, Apple cannot be too far behind and dividing the sales by manufacturers, there is always the possibility that Apple will sell more than any manufacturer of Android terminals.

Yesterday's study by Nielsen was complete, it presented accurate data, the study by Kantar is ambiguous because it does not present concrete data regarding the market shares held by each individual.
