In the future we will be able to use smart contact lenses that display information directly in front of the eyeball (Video)

Project GlassThe people from Google motivated various companies to prove to us that smart glasses could be the future of civilization, but a team of researchers from the Netherlands goes a little further and introduces contact lenses in the game. In the video clip above you have demonstrated a prototype of a curved LCD screen that was developed by researchers at the University of Ghent, it can be used as a contact lens and is able to display, for now, text directly in front of the eyeball, but we are not talking about a concept that the world has never heard of.

Ghent University's center of microsystems technology has developed a spherical curved LCD display which can be embedded in contact lenses and handle projected images using wireless technology. Unlike previous contact lens displays, which are limited to a few small pixels to make up an image, the new technology allows the entire curved surface of the lens to be used. This will never replace the cinema screen for films. But for specific applications it may be interesting to show images such as road directions or projecting text messages from our smart phones straight to our eyes.

Although for now everything is limited to text, in the future contact lenses could connect to other external devices and display information based on them, so we could be notified through them when we receive a call, an email, etc. At the moment we have smart watches that do this, but the use of contact lenses would greatly change the user experience. For now, it is not known if/when these products will reach the market, but I am sure that many people are waiting for them with enthusiasm.
