The authorities in China initiated a MITM attack to retrieve usernames and passwords for iCloud and Live.com

Believe it or not, it seems that in China the authorities are so desperate to get data about user usernames and passwords that they have launched a nationwide phishing attack. As of last evening, anyone trying to access Apple and Microsoft's iCloud.com or Live.com websites has been greeted by a web page that looks almost identical to the real thing, but has been specifically created to steal their data .

Chrome and Firefox browsers detect the fake page and provide a warning message, but the Qihoo browser, the most popular in the country, does not provide such a warning, with users handing over their iCloud and Live.com logins to the authorities without realizing it. The Chinese authorities are clamoring for this attack because it is run directly from servers that censor anything the communist government does not like, so we are talking about a problem that no one can solve.

This is the first time, according to Greatfire.com, that the Chinese government has acted in such a way and with the usernames taken it can access any user's data to copy it to its servers.
