Google Maps 10 years

Google Maps is the most used online map system developed by any company on the planet, and yesterday it turned 10 years since its official launch. The project that led to the creation Google Maps was initiated by two brothers employed by an Australian company called Where 2 Technologies. Proposing to the Google company the idea of creating an online mapping service, the two brothers convinced the American company to buy Where 2 Technologies and transform their project into what we know today as Google Maps.

Yahoo!'s current CEO, Marissa Mayer, supervised the project within Google as vice president of the division that manages the search engine, and it developed from a PC program into a real web application for viewing maps. From here on, you all know what Google Maps has become and how important the service is for users all over the world who rely on it every day. Of course, Google Maps has a multitude of competitors, including from the Apple company, but despite the appearance of all of them, for now no one manages to offer as much as those from Mountain View.
