Medicines produced with 3D printers

It is no news to anyone that 3D printers have become more and more popular and more accessible to us, the general public.

Three-dimensional printing is increasingly used in almost all industries, from the construction of cars and houses, to medicine, to the printing of medical materials.

The Americans have already authorized the sale of some medical materials produced with 3D printers, such as prostheses, implants tailored to patients suffering from rare pathologies or who have certain malformations, but medicines are also following. The first drug produced with a 3D printer would be the soluble tablet intended for the treatment of epileptic seizures.

The tablet made with the help of the 3D printer has a concentration of 1.000 mg/box, which cannot be obtained through traditional manufacturing procedures. Spritam (Levetiracetam) is a drug that has been on sale for many years but in other forms.

The 3D-printed pill will be put up for sale in US pharmacies in the first quarter of this year.
