Netflix blocks proxies/VPNs that hide the user's country

Netflix Romanian subtitlesNetflix will block the proxies/VPNs that currently allow access to movie and series libraries from other countries on the planet, the American company making the announcement this evening through one of its vice presidents.

The Vice President of Netflix, David Fullagar, wrote in an article published on the company's blog that in the following weeks, proxies/VPNs that hide the real location of a user so that he can access a content library will be blocked which normally he should not have access to.

In this idea, the user will only be able to see the content available for the country they are in, so those who buy a subscription in Romania and go to the USA, will be able to access the library there with many more movies, those who do the reverse procedure, losing access to a lot of content.

Currently, there are a multitude of services that allow viewing full Netflix content from anywhere in the world, but the American company seems determined to fight seriously against services that allow viewing content without country restrictions.

Some members use proxies or "unblockers" to access titles available outside their territory. To address this, we employ the same or similar measures other firms do. This technology continues to evolve and we are evolving with it. That means in coming weeks, those using proxies and unblockers will only be able to access the service in the country where they currently are. We are confident this change won't impact members not using proxies.

The problem for Netflix is very big because it is very difficult to block proxy or VPN services, but if a statement like this has been made public, then it means that a fairly well-thought-out technology is behind the proxy/VPN-blocking project uri.

How successful Netflix will be in blocking content for users from various countries on the planet remains to be seen, but if you plan to buy annual subscriptions to any service of this kind, it would be better to wait.
