Apple is negotiating to buy Tidal from Jay-Z

La the one year anniversary of the launch of Apple Music, a respected American publication announces that Apple is interested in buying an audio streaming service, specifically the one called Tidal, this being one of the most famous services of this kind, with a fairly large number of subscribers at the moment.

Tidal is owned by Jay-Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, Chris Martin, Jack White and a host of other artists, and the discussions between Apple and their representatives are just at the beginning, but if they go as everyone wants, then the audio streaming service would be integrated into Apple Music.

The main reason Apple wants to buy Tidal is based on the fact that the audio streaming service is owned by popular artists, so Apple Music could offer music at slightly better prices than artists would put pressure on record companies to reduce prices required for streaming.

Moreover, the artists who are part of this service have repeatedly released albums exclusively for their own customers, and Apple would have a lot to gain if the same thing happened with Apple Music, so their intentions are fully justified, but it remains to be seen if they will be fulfilled.

"Apple Inc. is in talks to acquire Tidal, a streaming-music service run by rap mogul Jay Z, according to people familiar with the matter. Apple is exploring the idea of bringing on Tidal to bolster its Apple Music service because of Tidal's strong ties to popular artists such as Kanye West and Madonna."

Apple is not the first company that discussed with Tidal representatives about a possible acquisition, those from Google, Samsung or Spotify have similar intentions, but until now no one has managed to offer the correct amount and the right terms for the artists to agree in order to sell the service.

Jay-Z bought Tidal for 56 million dollars last year, the platform being developed by a Swedish company called Aspiro, the American artist sharing the amount and shares of the company with a variety of other American artists, and this helped him to it grows enormously thanks to the publicity made by everyone.

At the moment, Tidal has 4.2 million subscribers, so about a third of what Apple Music has, and its integration into the Apple service would bring the American company even closer to Spotify, the exclusivities offered by artists over time helping additionally to substantially increase its customer base.
