Mac sales fell in Q3 2016

The sales of Macs decreased in Q3 2016 compared to the same period last year, the Apple company failing to convince its customers to buy its products.

Apple did not do very well in Q3 2016 in terms of Mac sales, with Gartner announcing a substantial drop in sales compared to Q3 2015. More precisely, globally, Mac sales fell by 13.4 %, while in the USA they decreased by 10.7%, so we are talking about decreases on the line for those from Cupertino.

In Q3 2015 the Apple company sold 5.3 million Macs, but in Q3 2016 those from Cupertino managed to sell only 4.9 million such products worldwide. The decrease is quite large, but slightly lower than that recorded by Acer, this company having the largest decrease among all manufacturers.

Although it is still in the first position, at a very short distance from the 2nd place, those from Lenovo also recorded a substantial decrease in PC sales. The entire PC manufacturing industry recorded a 5.7% decrease in sales in Q3 2016, although there were some companies in the top 5 that managed to slightly increase their sales.

In the case of those from Apple, the decrease in sales is mainly due to the fact that the world is waiting for the launch of new models during this period. It has been rumored for several months that a new MacBook Pro and a possible improved MacBook Air could be launched by Apple, and many people are waiting for the updates instead of buying the current products.

"There are two fundamental issues that have impacted PC market results: the extension of the lifetime of the PC caused by the excess of consumer devices, and weak PC consumer demand in emerging markets. In emerging markets, PC penetration is low, but consumers are not keen to own PCs. Consumers in emerging markets primarily use smartphones or phablets for their computing needs, and they don't find the need to use a PC as much as consumers in mature markets."

Unlike the industry, the decrease in Apple sales is double, and in the US it is the only manufacturer in the top 5 that recorded a decrease in sales. Those from Lenovo took over the 3rd place from Apple in the top 5 with a 15.3% increase in sales, in this market total sales decreased by 0.3% compared to the same period last year.
